Shopify speed optimisation

A faster Shopify store, measured before and after.

Slow pages cost sales before a shopper sees a single product. Shraen finds what is slowing your Shopify store down, fixes it at the source, and shows you the Core Web Vitals before and after.

Why Shopify stores get slow.

Shopify's servers are fast. Most slow Shopify stores are slow because of what has been added on top: apps that each load their own scripts, images uploaded at full camera size, a theme carrying sections nobody uses, and tracking tags that fire before the page has finished drawing.

None of this is visible in the theme editor, and each piece seemed harmless when it was added. Together, they mean a shopper on a phone with a patchy connection waits on a blank screen, watches the layout jump as banners load, and taps a button that does not respond. Many do not wait.

Speed affects how easily people find you, too. Google uses Core Web Vitals, measured on real visitors' devices, as part of how it ranks pages, so a slow product page is harder to find as well as harder to buy from.

Signs to look for
  • Product images appear seconds after the text
  • Content jumps as banners, reviews or popups load
  • Buttons and swatches feel slow to respond on a phone
  • PageSpeed Insights shows red on mobile
  • Every new app seems to make it worse

What the work covers.

Speed work starts with measurement, not guesses. Real-user Core Web Vitals from Google's Chrome UX Report and Search Console come first, then lab tests on your key templates, then every delay is traced back to the script, image or section causing it. The fixes are made in your theme, properly.

  1. 01

    Largest Contentful Paint

The main product image or headline should appear quickly; Google's threshold for good is 2.5 seconds. That usually means serving images at the right size and format through Shopify's image CDN, preloading the hero image, and removing whatever blocks it from loading first.

  2. 02

    App and script audit

Every app and tag is listed with what it loads and on which pages. Unused apps are removed along with the code they leave behind in the theme. The rest load only where they are needed, and later where they can wait.

  3. 03

    Layout shift

Images, banners, review widgets and fonts get reserved space, so the page stops jumping while it loads. Google's target for Cumulative Layout Shift is 0.1 or less.

  4. 04

    Responsiveness

Heavy JavaScript makes taps and swatches feel sticky. It is trimmed and deferred so the page responds quickly to every interaction. Google's target for Interaction to Next Paint is 200 milliseconds or less.

  5. 05

    Theme clean-up

Unused sections, duplicate libraries and old snippets are taken out, so the theme is lighter, quicker to load and easier for your team to work with.

Questions, answered.

Anything else, ask on the call.

Why is my Shopify store slow?

Usually because of what sits on top of Shopify rather than Shopify itself: oversized images, apps that load scripts on every page, unused theme code and third-party tags. An audit shows which of these is costing the most time on your store specifically.

Will removing apps break my store?

Not if it is done carefully. Each app is checked for what it does and where it is used before anything is removed, and leftover code is cleaned out of the theme afterwards. Where an app is needed, the aim is to load it more efficiently, not remove it.

What are Core Web Vitals?

Three measurements Google uses to judge page experience from real visitors: Largest Contentful Paint (how quickly the main content appears), Interaction to Next Paint (how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks) and Cumulative Layout Shift (how much the page jumps while it loads).

Can you guarantee a PageSpeed score?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. Lab scores vary from run to run and depend on the apps and content you choose to keep. What you get is a clear baseline, the fixes, and before and after numbers measured the same way.

Do I need a new theme to make my store fast?

Rarely. Most speed problems can be fixed in your existing theme. If the theme itself is the problem, you will be told so plainly, along with what a rebuild would involve.
