Does your Shopify store need a redesign?
Your Shopify store probably needs a redesign if it no longer looks like your brand, is hard to use on a phone, runs on an old theme that is not Online Store 2.0, or needs a developer for simple changes. If only one journey is the problem, such as the product page, fix that first instead of redesigning everything.
The nine signs
Each of these on its own is a reason to look closer. Three or more together usually mean the store has outgrown its theme.
- The store no longer looks like the brand you have become.
- Most visitors are on a phone, but the mobile store feels like a shrunk desktop site.
- The theme is not Online Store 2.0, so sections cannot be added or moved on every page.
- Simple changes, like a new landing page or banner, need a developer.
- Navigation was built for the catalogue you had years ago, not the one you have now.
- Product pages bury the details customers ask about: sizing, delivery, returns, materials.
- Pages feel slow, often because of apps you installed and no longer use.
- Your analytics show people adding to cart but not completing checkout.
- You avoid sending people to the site because you are not proud of it.
Redesign or fix one thing first?
A full redesign is the right call when the problems are everywhere: brand, navigation, mobile and the theme itself. It is the wrong call when the store mostly works and one journey is leaking.
If the trouble is concentrated in one place, such as the product page, the mobile menu or site speed, fix that first. It is faster, cheaper and lower risk, and it shows you whether a bigger project is worth it.
What a good redesign keeps
The biggest risk in a redesign is breaking what already works. Before anything changes, check which pages bring in search traffic and sales, which URLs other sites link to, and which features customers rely on, such as a size guide or a reorder button.
Keep those URLs, set up redirects for anything that moves, and carry over structured data and tracking. Then measure speed and conversion against the old store after launch.
Clothing and consumer brands
Fashion, beauty and other consumer brands usually need the same few things done well: clear size and fit information next to add to cart, colour and variant choice that is easy on a phone, imagery that loads fast, and collections organised around how customers shop rather than how stock is stored.

Anything else, ask on the call.
How often should a Shopify store be redesigned?
There is no fixed schedule. Redesign when the store stops fitting the brand, the catalogue or how customers shop. Many stores are better served by steady improvements to one journey at a time than by a big redesign every few years.
Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?
It can if URLs, content and structured data change carelessly. Keeping the URLs that rank, redirecting anything that moves and checking Search Console after launch protects rankings.
Can I redesign without changing my Shopify theme?
Sometimes. If the theme is Online Store 2.0 and well built, new sections and templates can refresh the store without a full rebuild. Older themes usually need replacing.
What is the cheapest way to start?
Fix the single journey that loses the most customers, often the product page or mobile navigation. At Shraen that is a fixed-scope Sprint from £500, shipped in one to two weeks.
